So I've got this problem with volume control, that just started after a few
years.

I've got Comcast X1 all over the house. On my Samsung TV, say I've got
volume set to 50 (no sound bar). You really have to turn it up to hear.
Always have. But recently, when I go to raise the volume, or lower the
volume, it won't move either way. I have to turn the TV off, and then it
responds. Happens at least once or twice a day.

There's another TV in the house that's a non-Samsung TV. Same thing
happens.

I'm wondering if this is a Comcast, and how to fix it, once and for good.

Comcast has no control over your TV. Comcast delivers the signal, your TV does the work
of presentation as well as the remote control change the volume / channel.

Check the batteries in the remote.

Agreed. But happens on two TVs lately. Started at the same time on
both. Yes, weird.

Two AA batteries. Both at 1.4v.

Sometimes even fully charged I find moving battery around makes better
contact and solves problem. Also times I have had tuning problems
switching TV off and on solves them. I assume glitch in X1.

There can certainly be crud or corrosion on the battery contacts. You're
essentially scraping the contacts.

At work, I had one of those pink erasers, looks like a stick of chewing gum but thick.
I'd pull out the batteries and rub both ends with that. I needed the eraser for other
things, so hey, I had it handy.
I used a fine grit sand paper, like 600.

I'm also assuming an X1 glitch. Happens with identical Xfinity remotes on
both TVs. All batteries at 1.4v, no corossion, no interference, etc.

Turning TVs off/on is the only thing that brings volume control back. All
this didn't use to happen. Sometimes it happens many time a day. PITA.

I still don't see the connection between the tv sound electronics, and some cable provider.
My logic would say it's the TV. But 2 of them?
Does it do it if you are watching any other input other then Xfinity input. Like maybe a
Roku stick?

It might be worth the time to re-pair the remotes with the TVs. Check out:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/programming-your-xfinity-remote

I'd start by following the instructions in the section "Pair your voice
remote with your Xfinity TV Box".

One of the first things I did. Been there, done that long ago.
I had an intermittent connection on an HDMI connector cause a similar problem with my Flexsbox.
Unplugging the connectors and blowing them out with compressed air fixed it.
