I just got my new free cable modem from Comcast. They sent me a new
"Arris TM822" to replace my old IPv4 only Arris, and it's working
well.
One thing puzzles me though, and I can't get a straight answer from
Comcast. All my lights are steady green *except* "Link", which
flashes yellow constantly. When I asked Comcast what the
difference was, they actually said: "Sometimes it's green, and
sometimes it's yellow."
Color indicates the [potential] max connection speed.
Yellow = 10/100 Mbps
Green = 1000 Mbps
Off = No host connected
Flash = Network activity
That doesn't mean you get the max of the connection speed but only
what the hardware shaking says is capable as the minimum of either end
of the LAN-side connection. The blinking shows if there is any
traffic (activity) in your network.
Google search (easy):

3rd hit:

Digging around there got me to:

Eventually I found the 822's online manual at:

(see page 33)
Looks like your router or computer to which this cable modem is
attached supports only the 10/100 Mbps service tier, not the higher
1000 Mbps (1 Gpbs) service tier. Lots of older hosts only go up to
100 Mbps and even then that is far faster than the WAN-side bandwidth
you get from Comcast for Internet service, like for their 25 or 50
Mbps tiers. If you have a router attached to the cable modem, you
would need to get a newer router that supports 1 Gbps on its WAN
interface (upstream to the cable modem). If the cable modem is
attached to a computer, you'll need to add a 1 Gbps NIC. Of course,
upping your hosts' network speed hastens communication between your
own hosts but won't do anything to speed up your Internet access.
Enlarging the size of your pipe does nothing to enlarge your Internet
pipe.

Wow, thanks for all that info!
It certainly seems like I have nothing to worry about.
As you suspected, my router (Netgear WNDR3400) is not capable
of Gbps speeds, nor would my current Comcast plan support it.
So... I'm quite content with my 20 Down/4 Up speeds,
and now I know that my orange/amber/yellow flashing is "OK"!
Thanks again,
