can't get Comcast McAfee software installed. ( page fault ole32.dll) after
finishing installation.
I can reinstall Ver 8 just fine
I uninstalled and cleaned McAfee off the computer between installation
attempts of ver 10 as instructed by mcafeehelp.com (several tries)
Put ver 8 back on and it's ok.
Win 98se ver 4.10.2222a
Internet Explorer Ver 6.0.2800.1106IC
Anyone solve this problem in the past ?

Yep... don't install ISP software... ever. Call me a pessimist, but beware of the free... it's generally provided with a hidden agenda.

I don't buy that but after seeing some test results
on different programs, there probably are better
ones around ...

It's not "ISP software", it's the same McAfee software you get if you
pay for it, AFAIK.

Everyone is right - but I thought that the mcAfee was only "free" for 1
yr? After that you have to pay for it.

Currently it's "free" for as long as your Comcast account remains active or
until Comcast revokes their deal with McAfee. It is not likely Comcast will
cancel the deal.

I haven't heard of that limit.

I suspect that you did not disable *all* startup applications when you
did the installation, and did not disable your network connection also.
Alternatively, you Win98SE has disintegrated as it is wont to do. I
would clean out all temp files, internet cache, run system file checker,
disable everything in msconfig, kill your network connection, and try
the installation again.

Agreed.

McAfee /might/ be OK with a circa 2006 PC, however, it has been known to
cause problems with Windows XP machines, before being connected to the
internet. Same can be said for Norton Internet Security and the Trend Micro
suite.

Even with a clean install of Win98SE, there's no guarantee McAfee will
install or work correctly.
