This is hypothetical.

Suppose the primary Xfinity account holder dies. I believe a secondary
account can assume primary ownership of the account for billing and
other purposes. Xfinity describes a method for doing this:

But my question is, will the original primary account owner's email
account be maintained? HYPOTHETICALLY, there may be important
correspondence coming in to that address for a long time afterward, and
that could be a real problem if that address disappeared.

This is hypothetical.
I would expect the account holder and the email address to be two different things.
Who owns the account has nothing to do with the email address.
Bob Smith opens an account, and makes the email address ***@comcast.net (wife).
Still that email address could have been ***@comcast.net for what it's worth.

This is hypothetical.
The owner can add member accounts. The owner can change the privileges
of the member accounts, like giving one a Manager privilege. This is
similar to specifying beneficiaries on a bank account, or a TOD
(Transfer On Death) deed on titled properties, like home, car, etc. You
prepare for death by naming who can take over or gets the property. If
you are designated a manager on the account, and especially live at the
same address, you furnish a death certificate to transfer to you.

The article you gave has a link to a bereavement web doc which describes
what to do. It is a dynamic page that walks you through the process, so
I didn't continue since that event hasn't yet happened to the eldest
left living in my family with Comcast accounts.

Of course, if you know the logins for the one who dies, and continue
paying the bills, they don't know the owner died, and you keep managing
the account in their absence. They just want the money, and they're not
monitoring the obituaries.

This is hypothetical.
When my parents passed, I kept the internet account active/paid so I
could demonstrate to potential home buyers that internet was available
at the address.
